Right on cue for the World Cup buildup, Evoplay sends out Penalty Shoot-out: Super Spin. It’s a five-reel football slot wrapped in floodlights and terrace noise. Its five-by-three grid spreads across a freshly cut pitch, the crowd a blur behind the glass. 

Raising the golden trophy means working eight free spins, a coin-collecting bonus game with values up to 14x your bet, and three jackpots climbing to a 1000x grand.

The base game ran unevenly as the gaps between wins slid anywhere from two to 15 spins. The upside is that they rarely paid less than 1x my bet, and one even climbed to 30x when a cluster of wilds finally cooperated. 

I bought my way into the playoffs, the bonus game. It normally triggers on six or more coins landing anywhere, each carrying a random value up to 14x your bet.

Regular symbols then clear out, three respins reset every time a new coin sticks, and it pays the sum of every coin once the spins run dry or all 15 spaces fill. Mine dudded, one round of three spins with nothing beyond the coins that opened it, settling flat at 20x my bet.

Free spins turned up on their own, somewhat 50 spins later. Three ticket scatters, which only land on reels two, three, and four, open eight free spins, and the reels drop everything but the wild, scatter, bonus, and high-pay symbols. 

When you again land three scatters, you get an additional round of free spins. It came in weaker than I wanted, but unlike the bonus I'd paid for, this one was free, so I took the 16.4x total open-handed.

On top of that, there are three jackpots, with the grand at 1000x your bet, all locked to the bonus round. The random event had my attention, and I hoped it would land, since it can turn a dead spin with at least one coin into a bonus trigger by adding five more coins to the grid. Both stayed in the finals I never reached.

Overall, it was a solid shooting session. I dug into both bonuses and pulled real wins from the main game, even if the random event, the one feature I most wanted to see, never showed. There's always another session for it.
