IGT has been coming out with a variety of slot titles themed around ancient civilizations and Sphinx Wild is taking us down to Egypt with bright and colorful symbols, exotic artifacts, and a beautiful sunset in the background. With that in mind let me tell you why the game still felt average to me. 

The vibrant symbols in the 5-reel and 4-row grid were the first thing I noticed and the attention to detail here was pretty impressive. Add to that the 40 paylines and the base game was fairly uncomplicated. I was able to make consistent wins worth 0.30 to 5x my bet every 2 to 5 spins. 

On average, I was making wins worth 1x to 3x with each symbol combination landed. Despite the above-average number, the inconsistency of landing symbol combinations made the base game nominally unprofitable in the long run. 

During regular spins in the base game, you can also land the Pharaoh symbol and it will turn all surrounding symbols into wilds. Although this helped make some considerable wins, it was so rare during my session that it was borderline irrelevant during the moment to moment gameplay. 

Coming to the best part of the Sphinx Wild slot, you have four different choices when it comes to free spins depending on how many bonus symbols you have landed. Landing between 3 to 5 such symbols gets you started into the round and you get to choose between four tiers of free spins each with a decreasing amount of spin and increasing amount of multipliers up to 5x your bet. 

After giving it plenty of tries, I would recommend sticking to 2x or 3x multipliers for consistent wins. I was mostly able to land 3 bonus symbols and although the 30 free spins with a 1x multiplier sounded much more enticing, the wins were severely lower than the 15 spins with 2x multipliers. 

While considering which multiplier to activate, also keep in mind that getting to the free spins bonus round is not an easy feat and will require considerable effort from you as it did in my case. You also don’t get a bonus buy button which I think would have made the game much more enjoyable for people.
