A retro-futuristic hunt for fruits and precious gems awaits us in NextGen Gaming’s Wild Play Superbet slot game. It’s not all about the looks though, there are frequent wild reels, 10 free spins with 2x wild multipliers, and four different superbet levels to make wins in this title. 

The first thing that I noticed upon spinning the reels of this slot was the fluid animations and attention to detail present inside. All of the symbols have dedicated animations when you land a symbol combination. The music is arcadey but it suits the theme and style of the slot perfectly. 

The game is arranged in a 5-reel and 3-row layout with 40 paylines which was super noticeable to me during my playthrough. I was making small wins left, right, and center, with the keyword being small. Sure, I was getting wins every couple of spins but they usually ranged between 0.30x to 1x my bet which was ultimately unprofitable. 

Wild reels are the key to making decent wins in the game and I made most of my wins thanks to the stacked wilds that fell through the reels. This is also where the Superbet mechanic needs to come in, you’d think that adding that extra 2x to 5x bet to wilds might just be worth it for bigger wins but sadly, it just isn’t. 

From my experience, the payouts get a small bump that isn’t worth the extra 2x to 5x bet I made, and using the Superbet feature just meant I’d chew through my bankroll even quicker than before. 

The free spins mini-game on the other hand does come with impressive wins which can push the base game’s losses aside. However, triggering it was no easy feat and took me upwards of 70 bets and by that time, the losses had stacked up way too high for the 30x to 50x returns from the free spins to genuinely make an impact. 

Although a gorgeous slot to look at and play, Wild Play Superbet just doesn’t make the cut in terms of payouts for me. I kept feeling like there was something missing here and perhaps cascading reels or respins could have saved the game but it gets a thumbs down from me. I’d only recommend playing it for free and not betting real money on it.
