In Nitro Storm, Amigo Gaming pulls us into a scorched canyon where a droid, a mercenary, and a girl mechanic guard their nitro tanks above the reels. You’ve got coin values up to 100x and multipliers up to 6x. And I've only mentioned the tip of the iceberg, so I was surprised to see the wins capped at just 1,600x the stake.

The five-by-three grid didn't give me much in the base game, but you'll see why I can't complain. I only saw wins between 0.3x and 2x my bet every three to four spins, from low-paying symbols. Even the girl mechanic, the top player, stops at 2x.

It’s all supposed to start with the flaming skull wild, which covers everything but tokens and special symbols and skips reel one. Tokens drop in green, blue, and pink, one each for the droid, the mercenary, and the girl mechanic, and each can randomly switch its owner’s bonus on.

There’s an instant pay feature, which fires when a token lands from the leftmost reel and pays out at once. I triggered it two times, but despite all the promises, it returned around 3x my bet.

Then, there are special symbols like coins that hold values up to 100x the bet, to sticky symbols that work only during the bonus rounds and hold multipliers up to 6x.

Now, the main reason I couldn’t complain about such a base game is that it was the only thing to hold on to. It has an interconnected structure I was eager to explore. Whichever character switches on decides what drops below.

Two can work together, or all three at once, and their symbols pile onto one board. What binds them is the 10 free games you start with and the ultra symbols that fill a bar above the reels, where seven of them pay a 1,000x jackpot.

Out of despair, I had to try the buy bonus, for 86x my bet. It lit up the mercenary and the droid for 10 free games with stickies locked on the middle reel. The round closed at 54.6x my bet, still far below the buy-in.

Overall, I wouldn't be so annoyed if the game didn't have so many ways to reward me. However, I won't hold grudges and will give this one another try soon, as it's obvious how much potential just the demo has.
