When I saw the name Cats, I honestly thought I was about to play another cute slot with a cozy theme, though it did have a bolder ring to it than most. Then the game loaded with its five-by-three screen, and I could see IGT had a different idea.

My session started well and stayed that way, as almost every win cleared 1x my bet, where the better ones came back with as much as 11.5x. And that is before the highlight came about, when one line filled with nine panthers for 33.33x my bet, and once the rest of the screen was counted, the spin reached 52.6x.

There are two reasons a base game could be that profitable. The first is the CATS logo, which covers every symbol except the paw prints and counts as two whenever it stands in for one of the big cats. The second is that plenty of symbols arrive as a pair inside a single frame, and a pair counts twice along a line, so five of them together read as a ten-symbol win.

The bonus never let me in, and I spent around 100 spins tracking it. Five or six paw prints on the middle three reels is what opens it, six of them for 10 free spins and five for half that many. Inside, the reels are swapped for a different set, the wild drops its one exception, and nothing retriggers.
