Unlike many Christmas slots that play it safe and look alike, Kalamba Games tried something different here. The Firedream Xmas Hold and Win slot offers a HyperBet system that lets you decide how loaded the reels get before you spin.

The game starts on a holiday-themed grid that runs on five reels, three rows, 10 paylines, and the max win goes up to 12,000x your bet.

In the HyperBet system, each level loads more onto the reels. Level 1 keeps it to the basic seven and BAR combos with no extras, and by level 4, everything is active. That's where I started. Multiplier Sevens with x2 or x3 activate from level 2 upward, and x2 or x3 Wilds cover everything except those Sevens and the diamonds.

Speaking of which, there are two types of Hold and Win diamonds, standard and Super ones, in a Christmas wreath with better cashpot odds. On level 4, any mix of 3 or more instantly pays its values.

If it wasn't annoying, it would be funny how many times BARs connected for exactly 1x return. Purple ones, blue ones, 10 out of 20 rounds. The sevens range from gold at the top down through red, green, purple, and blue, each paying less than the one above it.

When the signature symbol eventually joined my session, the red ones stacked next to an x3 Wild for around 6.65x my bet. I was hoping that rhythm would hold, but the diamonds kept showing in pairs, far from the 6 necessary to trigger the full Hold and Win bonus.

I dropped to level three and lowered my bet. Green sevens with x2 Multiplier Sevens lined up across four reels for 10x my bet, which is kind of ironic since the higher bet barely gave half that. Cashpots come as Mini, Minor, Major, and Maxi from 2x to 100x, and a Buy Bonus at 7.5x or 20x goes straight into Hold and Win.

Perhaps it's my poor strategy, but to win big, you need to play big. This slot may think differently. I didn't even try the first two modes before my balance hit zero.

Match the right level with a cooperative grid, and a profitable session should write itself. Mine was just 60 spins of mismatching that killed my balance.
