NGM Games got me good with the Prince of Treasures slot game; it seems like a mashup of medieval Indian and European characters in a Middle Eastern palace. Your target is to help the prince find a magic blue bag containing free spins with special expanding symbols and reach the 9,000x max win. Here’s what you’ll be facing inside this fiery castle. 

A five-reel and three-row grid with 10 paylines awaits your arrival, flanked by fiery columns on both sides. A blazing fire shoots up embers below the reels, and the whole scene is pretty climactic. However, the base game’s action did not reflect the theme here; symbol pays start at 0.50x your bet, and the ten paylines meant that I had to wait for my winning combos. 

The one saving grace is that the higher symbols pay for two or more matching ones on a payline. Most of the winning combos took between three to six spins to land and gave me between 0.50x and 3x payouts, which was decent but not enough to keep me in the green. There is a gamble feature in the game, which comes up as an option after each winning combo, just the usual card flip mini-game where you bet on the colour in hopes of doubling your win. 

There is only one special symbol in the game, which is the scatter; it also works part-time as a wild symbol by substituting for other paying symbols, but its main job is to help you trigger the bonus game. I managed to land three of them to trigger my 10 free spins pretty early on in my session and got the lower-paying 10 as my special expanding symbol. 

For what it’s worth, I definitely underestimated what this feature could do because I saw that symbol repeatedly hit over 50x payouts three times and rewarded me with an epic 153x payout in total. I did not manage to reach that high on subsequent triggers, but the payout potential was showcased to me early on, which definitely impressed me a little. 

Overall, the Prince of Treasures slot by NGM Games is a confused entry, and you can tell that by one look at it. The mismatched art style, generic theme, and AI art for higher symbols definitely don’t help, and neither do the symbol pays, which despite going as high as 500x your bet, generally reward low payouts. The one saving grace here is the bonus game, as the free spins plus expanding symbols combo is a tried and true Novomatic formula.
