Trail Blazer: Hold Your Trail All the Way for Free Spins With Extra Paylines and 2 Different Features!

Set in a quaint suburban neighborhood with skyscrapers faintly visible far away, Trail Blazer by Northern Lights Gaming is a cartoonish slot with interesting mechanics and features. With symbols being blown away and a bonus boost meter just below the reels, there’s plenty to look forward to in this slot title. 

Regular spins are conducted inside a fairly standard 5x3 grid with 10 paylines to make winning combinations. Although promising to hear, in practice, I found that the low symbol pays and infrequent wins make the base game unprofitable my a wide margin. On average, I was winning every 3 to 7 spins with the payouts varying between 0.20x to 3x my bet. 

This is also considering the features that can be triggered during the base game, the most prominent of which is the Blow Away Bonus. It is activated randomly and a gust of wind comes around to knock symbols off of the reels and replaces them with a new set of symbols. If a win is made during this process, the symbols that triggered it are locked in place as another gust comes by with new symbols. 

This process continues until there are no more wins or symbols to lock. During my playthrough, I was able to make a win nearly 10x my bet using the feature. 

During regular spins, symbols can also come with numbers on the bottom between 1 to 3 which are added to the Boost Bonus meter below. During the process, the game also randomly chooses if the numbers will be held for another spin or not, if held it is much easier to trigger the bonus features on the Boost Bonus meter. 

From my experience, the Trail being held is rare and almost always helps you reach the halfway stage of the Boost bonus meter which can either give you a boost on the meter, a respin with guaranteed wins, or random wilds on the reels. If you manage to fill up the meter, the free spins bonus is triggered with an additional 10 paylines being unlocked for a total of 20 paylines. 

After triggering it, you either get the Rim of Fire or Scorching Hot free spins. The first brings a roaming wild symbol to make symbol combos easier while the second locks 3 paying symbols which are the only symbols dropping through the reels. From my testing, the Scorching Hot free spins have a 10x to 15x higher return on average than the Rim of Fire free spins feature. 

In short, the Trail Blazer slot game by Northern Lights Gaming prioritizes gameplay over anything else. Wins are decent in the game but aren’t exceptional and I want you to know that before you try the game out for yourself. Good luck!
