Even though there were plenty of winning lines, I noticed that the gameplay didn’t feel as smooth as expected. It often took 4 to 6 spins before I could land matching symbols on a payline, which slowed things down quite a bit.

That being said, the payouts were fairly reasonable, with most falling between 0.46x and 3x my bet. While the winnings weren’t huge, they were steady enough to keep the game interesting with some patience. However, I was getting bored quickly as the game didn’t have much else to do other than wait for the free spins bonus round to kick in. 

I managed to trigger the bonus round early by landing 3 scatters, but the bonus wheel wasn’t on my side. I was handed just 6 spins, with the hope that the multiplier wheel, which picks a random multiplier for each spin, would come through. Unfortunately, I only hit one symbol combination during those 6 spins, resulting in a small 4.66x win for the round.

This made me eager to give the free spins bonus round another shot, hoping for better results. I kept spinning, and while the second free spins trigger took its time, it eventually brought me a solid 26.85x win. Even though the wait didn’t feel entirely worth it, this round was a clear improvement over the first one. 

With these things out of the way, I still wouldn’t exactly recommend playing the Montezuma slot game by WMS Gaming anymore. The slot hasn’t aged that well and it shows both in the mechanics and features. I’d advise going for other titles from the software provider right here on our website!
