I've been diving into classic titles lately, and Whale of Xtreme Fortune by Caleta Gaming caught my attention for a while. This straightforward slot features a single-reel setup like a classic one-armed bandit, with wilds added for up to 10,000x wins. So, why did this seemingly promising game end up with just a 1-star rating from me? Read on to find out! 

The premise of the game is straightforward. It has a single reel with one payline and various symbols, each with its own payout. Landing three matching symbols gets you a win, while wilds add a bit of ease compared to older classic slots. The symbol payouts are pretty generous, starting at three times your bet, but hitting those triples is definitely a challenge. 

During my session, I mostly hit the lowest possible returns of 3x my bet, which took anywhere from 3 to 14 spins to achieve. My biggest win from the base game was a solid 20x my bet, but it was a rare occurrence. I never managed to hit a combination with the higher-paying symbols, which offered payouts between 100x to 500x my bet even though wilds were pretty easy to come by. 

The slot has no bonus game, sticking to its classic mechanics, but it does offer a bonus buy feature that lets you land 2 wild symbols. I gave it a try for over 20 spins, but my best return was only 40x. While that doesn't sound terrible, the bonus buy feature costs a hefty 379x, which makes it hard to recommend. 

Although the game offers the ability to buy two wilds and a quick rebuy button for convenience, it doesn't provide enough value. Whale of Xtreme Fortune isn’t for everyone, and it definitely wasn't my kind of game. I honestly found the gameplay loop frustrating, and the outrageous cost of the bonus buy was a major dealbreaker for me. If you're in the mood for classic titles, there are better options listed below.
