Arcanum: Build Your Spell Inventory and Cast One for Up to 10,000x Your Bet

ELK Studios went magical, dark, and mystical with Arcanum. It’s a 6-reel, 7-row cluster pays slot where a roaming wizard acts as a persistent wild. Beneath the gems on the grid, hidden spells, multipliers, and free drops carry up to 10,000x returns.

My base game was pretty disastrous at the beginning if I’m being honest. Clusters barely formed, cascades died fast, and the biggest combo from my first 40 spins paid just 1.4x my bet. Magical, sure. But in the worst way. 

The previously mentioned wizard moves to a new empty spot before every refill and carries a win tracker. Three cluster wins involving him in the same round dump every collected spell at once. Those spells hide behind regular symbols and get picked up whenever a winning cluster clears them.

There are five spell types. Add Wild drops extra wilds, Expanding replaces up to a 6x6 area with one symbol type, Wild Column fills the wizard's reel, Wild Cross fills an X-shape from his position, and Wild Transform turns up to three symbol types wild. A global multiplier also climbs each time you reveal a hidden multiplier token.

On top of all that, two orbs float in when cascades stall. Transform upgrades a symbol type to a higher value, Explosive blows out up to a 6x7 area, and scoops up any spells or multipliers underneath. A Mirror Wizard can also drop in as a second persistent wild, but cannot trigger spells on its own.

Three bonus symbols trigger seven drops where everything carries over, multiplier, spells, and the whole grimoire. Four scatters add a mirror wizard, five add two. Extra drop symbols extend the round. Five X-iter buys range from 2.5x up to 250x for the Mirage Bonus.

Overall, it’s obvious that the perks of such an interesting slot all become insignificant when the session looks like mine did. It’s subjective, but that’s my impression of this entry after a long, and completely unprofitable session.
