Book of Madness Deluxe by Gamomat drops us into an abandoned asylum, with a plague-doctor nurse, a werewolf, and blood-covered hospital equipment spread across a 5x3 grid. You can choose to play with either 5 or 10 paylines, while three book scatters open 10 retriggerable free games, and wins can climb up to 5,000x the stake.

My base game wins mostly stayed between 1x and 2x my bet, and I was usually waiting around seven to 12 spins for one. The book filled plenty of gaps as the wild, but the stronger symbols did not connect often enough to matter. I did get one 8x hit from the werewolf, but nothing close to it landed again in the main game.

Three books finally opened 10 free games for me and picked the werewolf as the expanding symbol, which was a strong draw since five of them pay 200x your bet, with only the nurse paying more at 500x.

Whenever enough of him landed, he covered the full reels, and another three books inside the round would have added additional free games. That never happened to me, though, as I stayed on the initial 10 free spins and got away 20x total.

You can speed things up with Bonus Hunt for 3x your bet, which gives you five times the chance of landing the free games. Or, if you really don’t want to wait, you can buy them instantly for 100x your current bet.

After the bonus, I started using the gamble feature a bit more. You can either guess red or black to double it, or use the ladder and try to move up through the values on screen. I had some luck with cards a few times, and pushed the wins from my base game range, to somewhere between 4x and 8x my bet.

Overall, if the base game had given me a bit more to work with, I probably would not have minded that one of the strongest expanding symbols finished at only 20x my bet. This way, the werewolf could not pull the session far enough from the small wins. There is enough here for another try, but this playthrough was too slow for me to call it anything more than average.
