The base game is pretty par for the course, there are five reels and four rows connected by 25 win lines to bet on. Before you start betting, you can also control the coin size and how many coins are on the line. As soon as you land a winning combination, the cascade effect is triggered and the matching symbols disappear and make room for new ones to drop down into the board. 

With each new win, the multiplier marker above the reel goes up by one up to a total of 5x. This works well for the game as symbol pays can be a little underwhelming on their own in my opinion. 

I kept the coin value low while increasing the coins per line for my sessions. For the most part I was making between 0.36x to 0.96x wins every 3 to 6 spins which felt way too low, until I saw what the cascades had in store for me. Once two or more cascades occurred and I rose up the multiplier board, I was comfortably clearing 5.40x to 9.68x returns and this happened every ten spins or so because symbols stack a lot during gameplay. 

These symbol stacks need a wild or two to really clear the board and without wild symbols or random wilds pitching in, my session would have ended way sooner than I’d hoped for. I also noticed a major lack of higher-paying symbols until the free spins bonus kicked in. To get started, you need three or more scatters which aren’t easy to land and the 10 spins I got off of my three scatters only got me a small 12.08x payout. 

Overall, the Wishes Gone Wild slot by Genii does a lot of the things right. The slot looks and plays well, the cascades keep losses manageable, and the multipliers come in clutch way more than you’d think. That said, the bonus game felt pretty disastrous as I triggered it thrice and did not cross over the 25x mark even once.
