Going into Mega Fortune, I did not have high expectations. The game features a 5x3 grid with 25 paylines and low volatility, so winning combinations landed frequently, but they were not very profitable. Initially, I was seeing returns between 0.16x to 0.40x my bet, which wasn’t enough to cover my wagers and quickly started eating into my bankroll. 

This pattern continued for a while without any big wins to break the string of losses, so I decided to up the ante and push the bet level higher, along with a slightly increased coin value. With this riskier approach, I surprisingly started doing better, landing returns between 0.20x to 2.50x every 2 to 3 spins.

During this time, I surprisingly landed 3 scatter symbols on the reels, not just once but twice. I even landed 4 scatters at one point but the bonus game didn’t start. At this point, I was worried about the game being broken until I quickly shuffled through the rules page and got to know that the bonus only triggers if you land 3 or more scatters on a particular payline. 

This quickly soured my mood because until this point I was landing a whole bunch of scatters which I thought would be profitable. However, as they needed to be arranged in a specific payline, they ended up being quite detrimental to the base game as they took up spaces that other paying symbols could occupy to get me bigger wins. 

I faced a similar issue with the bonus symbols but getting to the bonus game was much easier. It is a simple wheel of fortune-type mini-game where there are four spinning discs inside a wheel with each one having a prize and a chance to get to the next disc with even higher prizes. I was able to trigger this bonus a few times and get between 5x to 25x returns which was pretty neat. 

Coming back to the free spins, they took me forever to chase down and I was given 10 spins with the possibility to land extra spins or multipliers by landing 2 or more scatter symbols. I wasn’t very lucky with this bonus game despite having a 4x multiplier and only made a small 17.24x win. 

NetEnt’s Mega Fortune has the features and potential profitability to compete with many modern slot titles.
