Synot Games’ Voodoo Mystery slot brings us to a village of magic where glowing potions, bags of gold, and possessed skulls carry up to 1,250x riches. We have stacks of mystery symbols, free spins where giant 3x3 symbols drop, and a gamble mini-game that can stretch up to 10 rounds. Nothing special, I know, but my session proved otherwise. 

The game runs on a 5x3 grid with 10 paylines. Symbol pays sit between 0.50x to 40x your bet, which is fairly standard. In my session, most base game wins stayed under 1x my bet, but it didn’t feel too punishing because mystery symbol stacks showed up regularly.

Those mystery symbols were easily the most reliable part of the base game. They often landed in stacks across two rows, and when they connected properly, I was getting 3x to 4x returns pretty consistently. There were a few cases where they landed too far right and didn’t help at all, but most of the time, they showed up early enough on reels 1 to 3 to actually build something.

This ties into the random features, especially the Empowering Hex. When it triggers, it upgrades mystery symbols into higher-paying ones, and this was easily the best modifier in the game. I only saw it twice, but both times it pushed wins much higher, with one hit going up to 24x. The other features, like Touch of Loa and Mysterious Hex, showed up too but didn’t really add much value in my session.

There’s also a gamble feature where you pick red or black to double your win. I only used it on smaller hits from regular symbol combos, nothing too risky.

Scatters showed up fairly often, usually in pairs, but you need three to trigger free spins. Once it finally hit, the bonus felt very dependent on the larger mystery symbols. The middle reels combine to allow bigger symbol stacks, and when those landed, they carried the entire feature. I saw them connect twice, pushing single hits beyond 25x. By the end of the round, the total came out to 57.50x my bet.

The Voodoo Mystery slot isn’t doing anything new, but the mystery symbol stacks and occasional boosts from Empowering Hex kept it steady enough throughout the session. I would have liked to see the game lean more into its dark magic theme, but other than that, it’s a solid entry worth checking out.
