The main game places you right outside the temple, featuring a giant 7x7 grid where you need to form clusters of 5 or more matching symbols either horizontally or vertically. With so many symbols on the board and frequent 2x2 giant symbols, I was landing wins almost every couple of spins. These wins ranged from 0.10x to 0.48x on the lower side, reaching up to 8.40x my bet on the higher end.

Random features are unlocked as you land more cascading wins, and among them, my favorite was the alteration feature. It was not only the most common but also the most profitable in the long run, giving me wins of up to 10.24x. It randomly chooses low-paying symbols and converts them into matching ones.

I also enjoyed the implosion and demolition features. The implosion adds up to 6 random wilds, while demolition destroys all low-paying symbols. These features were much rarer, but when they activated they brought wins up to 18.48x my bet, helping me recover my losses and make a small profit more than once.

In slots with similar mechanics, there is often a lack of a traditional bonus game, which limits the potential for big wins. Masks of Madness doesn’t include a regular bonus game either, but charging up the red totem with wins can queue all four base game features, along with the blaze behemoth feature, which combine to bring some high rewards. Triggering it requires 25 or more symbol combos, which was quite challenging, but it did give me a 102.08x win. 

As I wrapped up my playthrough of the Masks of Madness slot by Urgent Games, I had mixed feelings. I was really impressed by the theme and features, but the low payouts in the base game could be a dealbreaker for some players.
