Gemstone Jam: Spin the Retro Reels for Up to 10,000x Rewards

Yggdrasil has gone back to the Las Vegas era with Gemstone Jam, stripping away bonus rounds and overcomplicated mechanics. Instead, it relies on wild multipliers worth up to 4x and a Nudge feature to chase a massive 10,000x max win.

Usually, a one-armed bandit-style slot comes with one or three paylines. This modern take, however, is a three-reel, three-row slot played across 9 paylines. Cherries, BAR symbols, lucky 7s, and wilds dominate the reels, while a cheering casino crowd surrounds the action.

The math, however, isn't nearly as cheerful, with a 94% RTP and high volatility. Unfortunately, my returns reflected that as well. I was landing wins every 4 to 5 spins, with average returns sitting between 1.50x and 1.80x my bet. 

The cherries, however, kept rewarding me with tiny 0.50x payouts. Simply landing one cherry on the leftmost reel was enough to trigger those small wins, so they appeared almost every other spin.

The entire game revolves around its wild mechanics. A single wild doubles every winning combination with a 2x multiplier, while two wilds increase it to 4x. Those multipliers certainly help, but the real attraction is the Wild Prize feature.

Landing 3 wilds on a payline awards 2,500x your bet, 6 wilds across two paylines award 5,000x, while the dream outcome is filling the entire board with wilds to instantly claim the full 10,000x max win. Realistically, though, I never came remotely close to seeing that combination.

The only other feature is the Nudge mechanic. After selected spins, the reels can shift one position up or down to help complete additional winning combinations. It gave me my highest base game win of 30x my bet by lining up three lucky 7s on a payline.

After spending time with Gemstone Jam, it became pretty clear what kind of audience it targets. If you enjoy old-school three-reel slots with straightforward mechanics, you'll probably appreciate its simplicity. Personally, outside of the Wild Prize feature, there simply isn't enough variety to keep me more than a few spins.
