It's not often that we see fairytales brought to life with so much care but Armadillo Studios’ Alice's Mad Fortune is a great example of slot titles that take their themes seriously. The game has most of the characters we saw in the children’s book and is set on the chessboard of the Red Queen. 

Coming to the mechanics, it has a conventional 5x3 grid with high volatility and 10 paylines. Despite the low number of paylines, I was making small wins every 3 to 5 spins during my playthrough. Add to that the expanding wilds that trigger randomly and you have a fairly simple yet exciting base game. 

A neat little feature that I found interesting was that the wilds in this slot also double as bonus scatter symbols which lets you get to the bonus game quicker. The bonus round has a ton of depth and different combinations. It might look like a simple hold and win free game at first glance but let me tell you more about it. 

During the bonus, symbols of different characters from the book come with their unique features such as the Hatter symbol that collects all the multipliers, the Cheshire Cat randomly selects symbols and doubles their value. The Queen symbol removes all card symbols and collects their value to make room for new symbols to drop. 

These symbols also have equivalent golden symbols that can drop through the reels and come with longer-lasting effects or effects that trigger every spin. My favorite among them was the Golden Hatter which collects all the multipliers on the reels each time you spin throughout the bonus game. 

After spending a considerable amount of time with the slot, I don’t think you’d have any trouble getting to the bonus game. However, if you want better odds or more respins before it ends, you also have a bonus buy mechanic that lets you slightly customize the bonus game to your liking. 

There are four different bonuses in the bonus buy menu ranging from 60x your bet to 500x your bet. If you wish to skip the base game and get the bonus buy, I would only recommend getting the 60x or 158x bonus buy which returned equivalent amounts whereas the others resulted in losses most of the time.
