We’ve got an all-out brawl between two neighbors in Betsoft’s The Neighbor Wars slot game. Not only are these guys fighting over barbeque, potted plants, and lawn mowing disputes, they are also budding heads over up to 30x cash symbols, a hold and win bonus game, five different jackpots worth up to 10,000x returns, and a max win of 12,000x your bet. That’s where we come in to “appropriate” said treasure, as the HOA. 

The game plays on a 5x3 grid with 25 paylines. In my session, base game returns came in regularly every 2 to 4 spins, usually paying between 0.20x to 2x my bet. A few better hits with wilds and higher-paying symbols pushed things up to 7.20x, but those were occasional rather than consistent.

Free spins are triggered by landing three scatter symbols, awarding 8 spins. During this feature, low-paying symbols are removed, which makes it easier to land higher-value combinations. I usually saw between 18x to 25x returns from the feature, which isn’t nothing, but not the showstopping deal I was hoping for. 

The main feature here is Hold and Win, triggered by landing six golden bottle caps. I managed to hit it twice. On the first trigger, most symbols landed between 1x to 3x my bet, but I also picked up a mini jackpot worth 20x returns. A mystery symbol revealed another mini, which pushed the total win to 58x the stake.

The second trigger was weaker, ending at 36x my bet with fewer symbols sticking and no jackpots showing up. The feature gives you three respins that reset with every new symbol, but unless you land jackpots or multiple additions, the returns stay limited.

Stacked mystery symbols also show up in the base game, turning entire positions into the same symbol for a spin. They helped land a few of the better base hits, but did not shift the overall pace of returns in a major way.

The beautifully designed 3D landscapes of The Neighbor Wars by Betsoft are not peaceful at all. Eggs are being thrown at windows, pet dogs have picked sides, and we have plenty of casualties, including garden gnomes, mailboxes, and potted plants. As long as you take cover and let them duke it out, the rewards here definitely make it worth the play.
