BetSoft has uncovered a century-old alchemist's chamber in The Gem Master. This hidden laboratory is overflowing with gemstones, a 10,000x max win, and multipliers of up to 5x in the bonus features. I must admit, seeing those shiny little diamonds carrying values of up to 500x my bet was enough to make any treasure hunter's eyes sparkle.
Inside this secret chamber, there’s a five-reel, four-row slot played across 20 paylines. High-paying symbols only required two matching symbols to form a win, while lower-paying symbols needed three.
Land three scatters to trigger up to 9 free spins, while six diamond symbols carrying cash values unlock the hold and spin bonus round. Thankfully, I managed to land both features. But before that, here's how the base game treated me.
In the alchemist's workshop, I was landing wins every 5 to 6 spins, with average returns ranging between 2x and 3x my bet. Those dry stretches could have dragged my bankroll into a dead end had I not also landed stronger payouts of 10x, 15x, and 35x my bet. My highest base game win reached 47x my bet after landing seven diamond symbols.
After roughly 30 spins, I landed three scatters, awarding me 5 free spins with wilds and diamonds active on the reels. Unfortunately, the feature returned only 15.50x my bet.
During another free spins round, I managed to land six diamonds, which activated the hold and spin feature inside the bonus. This time, the multiplier climbed all the way to 5x, and by the end of both features, I had collected a satisfying 155x return.
If luck refuses to cooperate, you can activate the 1.25x ante bet, which increases your chances of triggering the bonus features. I never felt the need to use it, nor did I test the bonus buy options.
In The Gem Master, I found almost everything I looked for before committing real money to a slot. Strong base game payouts, with good bonus potential, along with multipliers. If I ever decide to return to an alchemist's workshop in search of profit, this chamber would be high on my list.
