Starting with the mechanics of Pirates of Fortune, the base game is played on a 5x3 grid connected by 40 paylines and high volatility. Despite the favorable mechanics on offer, I found that regular spins remained unprofitable thanks to infrequent wins coming about every 2 to 5 spins with low payouts averaging between 0.75x to 2.5x my bet. 

The features on the other hand are pretty neat starting with the free spins which were quite easy to trigger in my case. Landing 3 or more scatters awards you with 10 spins accompanied by a wheel of fortune style mini-game which determines a multiplier between 2x to 10x your bet. 

The multiplier was crucial to making big wins in this feature as getting a 2x multiplier resulted in me getting a small 9.50x win but after re-triggering the feature and getting a 4x multiplier, I was able to boost the win amount up to 33x my bet! I even landed a lucky 10x multiplier which boosted my wins further to a massive 48.75x my bet. 

On a similar note, landing 3 or more treasure chest symbols triggers the Chests of Gold bonus feature. This bonus was much harder to trigger for me but had the biggest payouts I’d yet seen in the game. I only managed to trigger it twice and get between 65x to 80x returns on my bet. 

Although Pirates of Fortune by Caleta Gaming had a rough start in the base game, the features more than makeup for the minor losses. For a fairly old-school slot, it has a ton of character and replayability which leads me to recommend trying it out!
