In Sand and Ashes, you’ll stand face to face with the final protector of the Nile Kingdom, a Medjay. This is one of the visually strongest Hacksaw Gaming’s editions in my opinion, and you will find up to 200x multipliers with respins, and two different free spins variants. Prepare for battle through a five-reel and five-row grid with up to 10,000x treasures on offer.

First steps in the desert-themed grid, and I already felt the Firestorm, which shows at random during a respin. No new symbols can land, but instead, this bonus throws a random Scarab Multiplier from x1 up to x100. Mine missed a few strong combos.

In my opinion, the most important symbol, by far, is the Wild Scarab Multiplier. When it lands, it substitutes for all paying symbols, triggers respins at the round's end, sticks, and each new one adds a multiplier up to x200. When I landed this feature, I made between 0.40x to 4x returns off of the fee respins I got.

When the Sandstorm rolled in, it shifted each Scarab one reel left. Two landed on the same payline, and since multipliers on one line add up instead of multiplying, that push closed at 6.5x my bet. The second one came in strong, as three chained Firestorms pumped one Scarab, and it wrapped up at just over 50x my bet.

Now, the Desert Fury is a bonus that initially awards eight free spins and requires three scatters to enter. Two FS symbols at once add two more spins, and three FS add four. For me, it held off until about the 50-spin mark, when I finally saw three scatters.

The round built up slowly through Firestorms and Scarabs, which function the same as in the base game. Then the turnover spin with ten retriggers stacked a 141x Superwin, and carried my round to a 149.7x total.

Twenty spins later and no Storming Sphinx bonus in sight, I invested 200x the base bet to trigger it. Respins are gone, Scarabs stay on the grid across all ten spins, and storms can fire on every spin. Retriggers work the same. Although multipliers were strong, up to x11 in Fire, both storms kicked in way too late, and the round closed at 96x my bet.

Overall, my adventure was very eventful. Storms and bonus rounds were a pleasure to my eyes, and my balance kept rising. Next time, I hope I can push through the guardian.
