Maximum Zombie: Hunt Down Undead Hordes With Shotguns and Grenades

The apocalypse is finally here in Hot Rise Games’ Maximum Zombie slot, where we see a city engulfed in fire. Our job is to track down the wizard who cast his magic spells to turn people into zombies, and along the way, use chainsaws, shotguns, and hand grenades to cut down the cascading zombie horde. Each one can carry up to 40x cash prizes, so let’s get to work! 

The undead rise across a 5x4 grid with 1,024 paylines, meaning as long as you land matching symbols on adjacent reels, you will get a win. Each winning symbol combination also triggers a cascade in which all winning symbols are removed from the grid, and new ones fall down. In my experience, I mostly made between 0.40x to 1.80x payouts every three to four spins. 

Symbol combinations never felt like the main attraction here, not even in the base game. Sure, some of them went over the 10x mark, but what I was really looking forward to were zombie scatter symbols and weapon symbols that would absolutely annihilate them to collect cash prizes within the zombies. 

It is a pretty neat system, the chainsaw sweeps a single reel, and if you have a scatter under or over it, it gets dealt with. The pump-action shotgun covers the entire reel and row where it lands and does the same. But hands down the best collect symbol in this slot is the hand grenade, it sweeps the entire grid and any zombie symbol that’s present gets dealt with, and its cash prize becomes yours. 

This feature got me as low as 2x wins and as high as 36x payouts depending on the zombies available. Similarly, five or more scatter symbols trigger the max spins feature, which gets you eight free spins with sticky scatter symbols that get an epic 2x multiplier added with each spin on top of their cash prizes. There’s more to the feature, but that’s the gist of it.

Now this feature can go one of two ways, either you keep landing collect symbols and earning small prizes, or you don’t land a collect symbol at all and watch scatters worth over 150x your bet just pass on by with zero payouts. The first time I triggered this bonus, I made no wins at all, but the second time helped me cross into double-digits with a 74.20x payout. 

Overall, Maximum Zombie by Hot Rise Games is definitely one to watch out for. The medium-high volatility feels only applicable to the base game, and the bonus brings extreme swings that can easily become too hot to handle. If you like the premise and enjoy 3D graphics in your slots, definitely give it a spin. If not, I’d suggest sticking to the Maximum Zombie free demo for now.
