Spellbound sat me down in a wizard's library full of old books, bubbling cauldrons, and candles that kept flickering as I kept spinning.

You buy a ticket, a three-by-three grid reveals itself, and if three or more matching symbols appear, they clear out so the new ones can fall in from above. That is the whole loop, and 5,000x is the ceiling.

My loop was mostly potions. Red and blue ones clustering in threes for 0.20x, green and orange ones occasionally reaching 1x my bet in groups of four. The cascade would clear a group and refill the grid, but replacements were usually just more potions doing the same thing. After about 15 spins, the pattern was obvious, and my balance confirmed it.

When three of them connected, let’s say two to three times during my session, the payout was 2x at best, and the same goes for the wizard hat, with those wins being a bit higher. The spellbook is the big one, x150 if all nine spots fill with it.

Somewhere in the paytable is also an Event Symbol, in the form of a purple crest that triggers one of three things when revealed. 

Even though it didn’t feel like it, there are more options to win big. Those are an Expanding Wild shaped like a young wizard covering up to three spots, a x5 Multiplier scroll applied to all cluster wins, and the Bonus Wheel for prizes and a chance at three progressive jackpots, Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

After all, what I experienced was a nice-looking library, smooth animations, and a ceiling that felt more like decoration than a real possibility.

Simple and sweet, that is the idea behind Sweet Fortune by NeoGames. Inside the patisserie, a five-column grid shifts between two and six symbols. That setup transforms with every spin, and sometimes takes a narrow, lopsided shape, but the 5,000x ceiling stays invariable.

Six, seven, and sometimes eight-ingredient symbols could have gone as far as 1x to 1.6x my bet in the base game. If those did not occur often, and they did not, my balance wouldn’t like the math. What I really appreciated was the Wild wrapper or the Bonus Round. 

The first one comes dressed as a blue candy wrapper and carries multipliers from x2 to x5. If two of them land in the same match, their numbers stack up first, and then the total kicks in.

The latter, Bonus Round, is the only thing that could be announced as a game changer. Three striped candy boxes open a wheel that guarantees five to 15 Free Spins and a shot at a Jackpot. In my store, both were out of stock.

Out of sight, out of mind. I saw three progressive jackpots, Epic, Major, and Minor, only above the cabinet, as options. The wheel from the Bonus Round is the only door to those, and since my candy boxes never showed up in threes, that door stayed locked.

Overall, I do not mind a slot with fewer features, and I do not mind bad luck. What I do mind is a session that was neither sweet nor fortunate. I just couldn’t rely on a single feature to help.

This time, the holiday-themed reels are surrounded by Christmas trees, hiding a 5,000x max win. With such win potential and multipliers up to 50x in the base game, I gave it a run to see what Santa had in store this Christmas.

This is a five-reel, four-row grid with a cascading feature and cluster payout mechanics. In this snow-covered grid, you’ll see Nutcracker characters, snowflakes, reindeer, bells, and bonus symbols, with a claw feature above the grid. Unfortunately, the RTP and volatility are both undisclosed by the provider, which is not the most comfortable starting point.

That said, I found the volatility leaning toward the higher side, as I was landing wins every 5 to 6 spins. To land a win, you’ll require three or more matching symbols connected anywhere on the grid. My base game average win was between 2x and 3x my bet.

Speaking of that, the claw mechanic did help pick gift symbols from the grid and reward me. Thanks to the claw, I landed a base game win of 22.50x my bet. The most exciting factor here is the multipliers in the base game.

If you land a win while a multiplier is on the grid, it gets added to the winning amount, which once gave me my session high of 44x my bet. Theoretically, there is a bonus round in this slot. However, in my 200+ spins, I never triggered it.

Santa Claws kept my bankroll fairly active with its claw mechanics. I would have rated it higher if there were more clarity around the RTP and volatility. Without such key information, players are going in a bit blind.
