Escape The North: Wield Nordic Runes and Break Free of Midgard for Free Spins with Sticky Wild Multipliers

The frozen Nordic wilds in RTG’s Escape The North slot bring mythical animals and the legendary Aesir into the mix. With sticky multiplier wilds, re-triggerable free spins, and the chance for hefty rewards, this game has a lot to offer. Respins in the base game keep the action going, too. But does it all add up to a game worth trying? Here’s my take.

The Norse Gods have chained you under a 5x3 grid containing 243 winning lines to make your escape. I played the game for over an hour and most of my winning combos got me between 0.20x to 1.50x returns every 3 to 5 spins for the most part. Respins occur frequently and it seemed like this would be the way to get bigger payouts but I barely managed to get over 3x returns from this feature either. 

On a side note, I really like the premise and visuals of the game, the runic symbols and the color schemes made me feel like I'm back playing some of the new God of War games set in the Norse lands. 

Unlike Kratos though, I couldn’t just weild a magic axe to get out of my binds so landing scatters seemed like the only way out. To trigger free spins I would need three or more of these symbols and I managed to get them by simply spinning the reels. The game has a bonus bet option but it costs a steep 10x your bet and I would not recommend switching it on. With three scatters I secured 10 free spins and an entry into the bonus game. 

Much like the base game, the bonus also heavily relies on respins to do the heavy lifting. However, this time around, these respins were much more helpful in landing higher symbols in bulk which helped me get up to a decent 18.50x win from the round in total. I triggered the bonus a few more times but my wins remained under the 30x mark which made the bonus game quite underwhelming and not worth the wait at all. 

Despite the strong start with immersive visuals and a gripping storyline, the Escape The North slot by RTG didn’t leave me with a positive attitude because of its underwhelming payouts. The game definitely has some potential for big wins but they are buried under too many technicalities and conditions.
