Whether those treasures were actually willing to show themselves during my session is another story entirely.

The action takes place on a familiar 5x3 grid with 25 paylines. Symbol values range from around 0.20x all the way to 40x your bet, and the base game proved more active than I expected from a high-volatility slot. Smaller wins worth 0.20x to 2.36x my stake arrived every 2 to 3 spins, which was enough to keep things moving.

Wild symbols helped considerably as well, often landing on the first two reels and contributing to winning combinations. Thanks to those wilds, several combinations climbed to around 4.64x my bet, giving the base game more life than most book slots manage. One feature that didn't impress me at all was the so-called Magic Wild mechanic, as it didn’t do anything.

The free spins, on the other hand, were much more familiar territory. Three book scatter symbols triggered the feature and awarded 10 free spins. Before the round began, the game selected 10 and Q as expanding symbols. If you've played any Book of Ra-style slot before, you'll know exactly what happens next. Whenever one of the chosen symbols forms a winning combination, it expands to cover the entire reel and dramatically increases the payout.

The 10s and Queens repeatedly expanded across the reels, producing several wins worth around 5x my bet each. By the time the tenth spin finished, I had accumulated a respectable 32.24x total win. The other major feature is the Hold & Ring Accumulation Bonus, which I never managed to trigger despite a lengthy session.

Overall, Book of the Aztecs Legend feels like two different slots stitched together. The free spins are probably the reason most players will stick around. The Hold & Ring feature sounds interesting on paper, but felt practically invisible during my session. Meanwhile, the Magic Wild mechanic sat awkwardly in the middle, doing very little at all.
