There are 5 reels and 3 rows sharing 20 paylines and medium-high volatility among themselves in the base game. This fairly standard setup helped me make some decent wins between 0.50x to 4x my bet every 3 to 6 spins. Most of the wins I made during my session came off of the lower-paying card symbols while the higher-paying symbols carrying decent wins up to 6x my bet remained rare. 

Despite the game being fond of its wild multipliers, I only saw them make an impact on my wins thrice throughout my playthrough. The highest multiplier I saw was 3x and helped me make an impressive 13x win thanks to a few golden sword symbols tagging along. Although I did make some standout wins, I was quickly losing my bankroll, and getting to the free spoons bonus seemed like the only option I had.

It took me around 10 minutes of gameplay to get the 3 scatters needed to start the free spins bonus game. To start, I was given 5 free spins with two wild symbols that would move around every spin to help me land bigger winning combinations. As this feature is progressive, getting more bonus symbols unlocks more spins and multipliers for the moving wilds. 

The first time I triggered it, I didn’t manage to get the 6 bonus symbols necessary to get to the second stage and only made 14.20x returns from the round. The second time around, I was able to get to the second stage and get an additional 5 spins with 2x wild multipliers which helped me get an impressive 51x win. 

Despite the weak base game that felt like a bit of a slog, Emperors Rise by Pragmatic Play still manages to be a decent entry with decent potential for profit especially if you get to the higher stages of the free spins bonus game.
